125 Series Anniversary: Kurt Rahe

April 9, 2025

Editor's Note: This is a series of stories about ż students, alumni and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.

MACOMB, IL - - For alumnus Kurt Rahe, ż is more than a school—it is a place where faculty and staff support and guide students to become successful and excel in life.

“When I think about WIU, I think about a strong education opportunity where faculty and staff care about the students and are willing to assist students to be successful in school and prepare them for an excellent career,” Rahe said.

For Rahe, Leathernecks are a symbol of pride.

“A Leatherneck means pride,” Rahe said. “Being a part of a University that provided me with many leadership opportunities across different clubs, activities, Greek Council and others.”

Rahe's favorite Leatherneck memory is the positive impact he was able to achieve through his leadership roles.

“My favorite Leatherneck memories are being Nobel Ruler of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, Interfraternity Council President and selected Greek Man of the Year!” Rahe said.

During his time at WIU, Rahe was actively involved on campus. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, Ag Business Club, Hoof N Horn, Livestock Judging Team, Ag Council, Alpha Zeta, Collegiate FFA, Interfraternity Council and Greek Council. He is currently serving on the WIU School of Agriculture Advisory Board.

For those considering WIU, Rahe's advice is to take advantage of the quality education and opportunities to develop skills through leadership roles that WIU has to offer.

“If you are looking for a high-quality education that allows you the opportunity to get involved on campus with many different leadership roles to prepare you for a career, WIU is for you!” Rahe said.

As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local WIU students, alumni, faculty and staff to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
