Casa Latina to Host 10th Annual Calle Murray May 3
April 10, 2025
MACOMB, IL - The ż Casa Latina Cultural Center will host the 10th annual Calle Murray from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 3, with the theme “Standing Against Hate,” in front of the Multicultural Center.
Calle Murray is a cultural festival that celebrates the Latinx community on the WIU campus. This event brings together the WIU and Macomb communities in an open and engaging environment, while learning about the rich history and culture of the diverse set of Latinx countries represented by students, staff and faculty at WIU.
“We hope that through this event, we can personify its message of unity and belonging to bring our campus community together as a family, despite our differences and bridge the gap between different cultures to unite in harmony and serenity in a world filled with hatred and envy,” Casa Latina graduate assistant Giovanni Donato said.
Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the true beauty and enrichment that traditional Latinx parties/festivals provide through food, music and performances. This event aims to bring the community together and help cultivate the seeds towards solidifying college students' sense of culture on campus to make them feel a sense of belonging.
All WIU students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome regardless of race, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability or age.
